Tchaichovsky Symphony No. 5

May 16, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$5 – $50
  • Huapango by  Jose Pablo Moncayo
  • Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 26 in C major by Prokofiev
  • Symphony No. 5, Op. 64 in E minor  by I. Tchaikovsky

The Williamsport Symphony presents the majestic orchestrations of Russian composers Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony triumphs over fate, a journey through troubles into joy and ecstasy — and some of the greatest melodies ever given to us. Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3, famously difficult for the dexterity and stamina it requires of the soloist, stands near the top of the list of ultra-virtuosic showpiece concertos. And yet this is no “show-off” concerto; it’s a work of passionate expression and flies from the keyboard with what sounds like bursts of spontaneity. Pianist Melody Quah performs this beautiful piece on the Grand Steinway piano at the beautiful CAC Hall. The program opens with Jose Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango that is a very colorful classical work influenced by the Mexican folk dance that will leave the audience with a desire for more!
