Williamsport Symphony Orchestra Announces Auditions for the 2024-2025 Season

We are excited to announce auditions for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. Auditions will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Clarke Chapel, Lycoming College, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Auditions are by appointment only.

– Oboe 2/English horn
– Section Violin
– Section Viola
– Section Cello
– Section Bass

2024-2025 WSO Performance Schedule:

– Tuesday, 10/22/2024
– Friday, 12/13/2024
– Tuesday, 2/11/2025
– Tuesday, 3/18/2025
– Tuesday, 5/13/2025

The WSO is a per-service orchestra, with an approximate minimum of 21 services for the season.

Audition Requirements:

**Principal Bassoon:**
1. 1st movement of a standard concerto of your choice
2. Excerpts:
– Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade (2nd movement)
– Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring (Introduction)
– Mozart, The Marriage of Figaro
– Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 4

**Second Oboe/English Horn:**
1. Solo: Oboe solo of your choice, approximately three minutes in length.
2. Orchestral Excerpts:
– Oboe I: Mozart, Overture, “Cosi fan tutte”
– Oboe I: Debussy, La Mer
– Oboe II: Wagner, Prelude to Die Meistersinger
– Oboe II: Brahms, Haydn Variations
– English Horn: Respighi, The Pines of Rome
– English Horn: Solo from Berlioz, Roman Carnival Overture

**Section Violin:**
1. 1st movement of a standard concerto of your choice
2. A movement of unaccompanied Bach or Telemann of your choice
3. Excerpts:
– Mendelssohn, Symphony No. 4 (1st movement, 1st page)
– Mozart, Magic Flute Overture (2nd Violin part)
– Beethoven, Symphony No. 3 (1st movement, 1st page)
– Brahms, Symphony No. 2 (2nd movement)
– Mozart, Symphony No. 39 (2nd movement)
– Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 (4th movement)
– Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 4 (4th movement)

**Section Viola:**
1. 1st movement of a standard concerto of your choice

**Section Cello:**

2. One movement from a Bach Cello Suite
3. Excerpts:
– Beethoven, Symphony No. 5, 2nd and 3rd movements
– Brahms, Symphony No. 2, 2nd movement
– Mozart, Symphony No. 35, 4th movement
– Mussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition, VI. Samuel Goldenberg and Schmulye

**Section Bass:**
1. 1st movement of a standard concerto of your choice
2. Excerpts:
– Mahler, Symphony No. 1, bass solo
– Beethoven, Symphony No. 5, 2nd and 3rd movements
– Mozart, Symphony No. 35, 4th movement
